Chorus Master - Ravel - Daphnis et Chloé, August 2019
Alexander began playing keyboard at the age of 5 and from that point on took regular lessons in piano and singing, also pursuing his passion for singing through multiple choirs at the King’s School Canterbury. During his time at school he discovered an enjoyment in directing vocal ensembles whilst leading his house of 60 peers in their annual house song competition, aged 15. He went on that year to direct the school’s first barbershop quartet, and later was the first MD for the school’s new mixed-voice close harmony ensemble.
During a gap year as a choral scholar at Portsmouth Cathedral, he joined the Rodolfus Choir in London. His first concert with them was in fact Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé, with Philharmonia Voices and Orchestra, conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. Alexander is a Tonmeister student at the University of Surrey, currently working at Chandos Records on his placement year.
